Forgotten realms demon stone review ign11/21/2023 I can't comment that this game is like or unlike WoW in any way, because.wait for it.I'VE NEVER PLAYED WoW!!! I was actually looking to get into the MMORPG scene via this game, and I'll be honest when I say that if this is what MMORPG's have to offer, I'm pretty much happy going back to Demon's Souls and my FPS's for some fun. I like having the choice between Coke and Pepsi or Dirty Ron's and BK - I don't want to be fed by Blizzard and Activision for the rest of my gaming life just because the lowest common denominator demands to be spoonfed. This review is completely valid and I agree with every point made - but the majority of comments here are totally misguided and reactionary. These are simple fixes and it would be a shame if they're not fixed and it's a bigger shame that such simple problems are big enough to smear an otherwise elegantly crafted MMO. They also didn't finesse the inventory menu nor the buying/selling system to a point where it is fluid without being cumbersome. They messed up the market system royally - the amount of synthesis and crafting options are a huge opportunity but without a centralized auction house bazaar it's a waste and a mess. To call the class system structure and level progression unchallenging or anything less than original for the genre is plain ignorant. It's not an expansion pack, it's an entirely new experience. Millions of ppl are used to playing WoW on autopilot, this is a game that requires a little more investment of time to get through the learning curve - because it's an original title - it's not FFXI-2 and more importantly it's not WoW2.0. True, FFXIV doesn't use big Fischer-Price buttons when you die, you have to do the strenous task of pushing one button to open the menu and one whole other button press to select a command (that the in-game log dialogue box actually tells you to do giving directions whenever needed). For what it's worth, you should know that FFXI actually precedes WoW and WoW is an MMO derived from an RTS that was ripped off directly from existing RTS games. The majority of your complaints seem to be that the buttons or the menu don't behave exactly like they do in WoW, because your mind implodes when gods forbid something is done differently than you expect. FF is not WoW nor does it try to be - which is a good thing. The first FF Online was much for emphasizing my point - you spent an entire reply comparing the game to WoW. That's the sort of difficulty and difference you are getting with FF. It is easier in wow to click release on the pop up when you die, while difficult in FF because you have to figure out to open your menu, figure out and find the 'return' button within a convoluted game menu. It's easier in WoW to see a quest giver by an explanation mark over their head, but more difficult in FF because the explanation mark is in a small circle at the top of your screen, while you are in an area of the quest giver. This is a game made more difficult because of poor UI choices, not a game that is actually challenging in difficulty. This is not making a game more difficult because of game play, but forgetting to take things like lag into account. As far as MMO's have evolved, there's no excuse for not letting you target name plates of mobs. This game is difficult, not because of it's complexity in challenging your skills, but because of mishandled UI. This is not EvE or even the first FF MMO, which actually had flexible classes. This game is not evolution of the genre or taking it into a new direction. Just relax and judge the game for what it is, not what your idea of what it should be.Ĭlick to expand. But, the game is still mostly a WoW style game, which is really an EQ style game. Personally I'm glad SE didn't just create a WoW clone like other third parties churning out CoD clones because the uneducated don't like to change their style. Simmer down and try the game free for 30 days and judge for yourself before you go back to stroking off your Horde Guild.Įveryone seems afraid to like or at least appreciate something different. I can understand it's frustrating that you've invested a few years in leveling up your elf mage, but don't be so eager to jump on the hate train because early reviews are pointing out some annoying interface flaws with the new toy that underneath all of the anti-japan hate has actually taken steps to evolve some pretty major MMO concepts with interchangeable class mechanics and the choice to play solo effectively and in an entertaining way without the neccessity to party if one so chooses (or doesn't want to risk teaming up with a leeroy jenkins). I've never seen so many fanboys afraid of another MMO taking a run against WoW.
